FB & LJ group syncing

Previous Entry FB & LJ group syncing Aug. 30th, 2005 @ 02:17 am Next Entry
I was wondering what the story was on LJ & FB friends groups synchronization is following subbes' April 20th post "Groups". I saw whitaker's comment saying that syncing will be moved to a new job management system for reasons of reliability and scalability, but even the current system as described doesn't seem to work for me. Whitaker's comment:

The LJ Friends => FB Groups synchronization should happen constantly and always be up-to-date.

That said, the current mechanism is flaky as hell and needs to be redone. We're planning on using our new job management system to help keep this reliable and scalable.

Everyone should have an LJ:all_friends FB group as well as an LJ:(lj groupname) FB group for each of their LiveJournal friends filters. Whenever you change your friends on LiveJournal side, it marks your account as "dirty" and there's a job that goes through and constantly synchronizes those to FB.

Additionally, every 12 hours or so when a picture is requested from your FB account, a full sync is triggered where friends groups and pulled from LiveJournal.

Lots of problems, short answer is we know it sucks and plan on making it robust.
Not only are my FB & LJ groups months out of alignment, but my FB groups predate my upgrade to a paid account by several months. Just like subbes, my FB groups haven't updated despite group and friend changes on the LJ side and new picture addition / requests on the FB side.

Does anyone know of anything else I can do to force a sync? If not, any idea when the synchronization system might be changed or improved?

My apologies to everyone. I'll do my best to find some time to investigate the cause of the problem. If there's a smallish bug I can fix then I'll do so, otherwise the "real" fix will have to wait until we can devote some time/resources to it. :-/

Don't kick yourself too much over this, I was just wondering if there was a way for us to force it, if the fix isn't coming soon. I'm sure you guys are very busy, so I can understand something like this slipping through the cracks.
