I made a small potery collage series at the size of 1000 X 1000 so the words would be legible. I posted them <a href ="http://pics.livejournal.com/ritaxis/gallery/0001krrr"here</a>. But in the largest magnification -- which seems to be 750 X 750 -- they are completely illegible. What gives?

I can read them just fine at the highest magnification, perhaps your browser is resizing the images and that process is making them illegible.

In IE6 they're perfectly readable...

I'm getting them all at 1000 X 1000 and legible in Firefox

When I open them in IE, it opens it at 1000 X 1000 and then the browser resizes it to 800 x 800. So its some issue with IE in some option that I imagine could be turned off somewhere.

or wait, I can click down in the right corner when that thing shows up for maximizing the size of the pic and it will go to full size. In firefox, a magnifying glass shows up and you click and it goes to full size.

In both Internet Explorer and Firefox the default action when an image is larger than the viewable area is to resize to fit within the area. This can be disabled; however, it is easier to simply zoom into the image. In Firefox's case, the mouse displays a magnifying glass when it is over the image, clicking restores the full size. In Internet Explorer, when you move the mouse over the image and wait for a moment, a button should appear in the bottom right corner that when clicked restores the full size.
