shortnames

Quick question: are shortnames analogous to friends filters? I don't really see the point of them when there are child-parent capabilities.

Also, is there a way to keep the child galleries from showing up on the main gallery page? I like that the parent gallery shows the child galleries within it. But the child galleries are also listed as their own galleries as well. Any way around this?
