Uploading from Nokia Phones
Feb. 1st, 2005 @ 04:25 pm
If you have a Nokia camera phone (and have the right service plan?) you'll soon be able to upload pics from your phone right to PicPix / Scrapbook.
I just got it working for my phone (Nokia 6670) today, but it's not integrated into PicPix / Scrapbook yet.
So what we'd support would be email posting (MMS to email) and Nokia Upload Protocol....
Do other types of phones have something similar we should look into supporting?
I have no idea if this would help the developers but on trying to email a jpg from my nokia 7610 to my firstname.lastname@example.org a couple of weeks ago i got this error
(Error uploading pict: Data sent does not match MD5: got=115476 you=81b36274b5d1afe50b3d82a868fc7b41 saw=edec41011d19fb0845c7f29caf321cca)
no idea if that's just email problems or livejournal, but that's how the post came through on my journal.

Verizon, with the LG cameraphones? Verizon has a "save/upload" thingy that stores it in their gallery space (which is never very much storage space).

Can you find us a doc?
Hopefully Verizon isn't tying it to their service.
) uses her lg cameraphone by verizon to send images to flickr. works ok.
another friend, qousqous
has been using flickr as well.
i shall talk to them to see what their phones can do.
can you read your friends post from your phone?

The 6670 has a web browser, so yes.
Does it support a Motorola V551 on Cingular?
*Nokia* has a little tool built into their Series60 phones that lets you upload images to a server (Nokia has their own service called lifeblog that they try to sell you).
The protocol is documented so you could write a J2ME app for the V551 (or really anything with J2ME and MIDP whatever.iforgot that adds gprs networking support).
sidekick 2 would be cool.

Is there any way you could set the uploader to work on the port that WAP uses (e.g. just setup Apache + mod_proxy on another hostname like wapworkaround.pics.livejournal.com forwarding traffic to the normal port on pics.)?
T-Mobile recently locked down T-zones to where you can only access WAP and a few other things and all of the other ports are blocked. The solution is to upgrade to the $20 a month unlimited plan, but there is a catch: SmartAccess customers (e.g. me) can't add the $20 a month plan unless they downgrade to the 300 minute plan (which isn't happening...).

Is WAP just a special port? We could totally run it on that port as well to help people get it for free. I'll look into it.
(I have T-Mobile + $20/month unlimited.....)
the nokia phones with sprint.... or any phone with sprint! :-D
T-Mobile with a Motorola V600. I havent gotten the email to work... but I think there is also some sort of upload function as well. It's a new phone for me and I am still getting into it.
