Hey everyone! To begin with, I will warn you all...my knowledge of all things computer related is very limited at best. I know just enough to get by, but not much more :) Anyhow, this whole scrapbook thing sounds like a great idea...especially considering I don't have photoshop to resize/make icons out of my pictures. A problem I seem to be having is that there does not appear to be anywhere in scrapbook that I am able to do these things. I scrolled through some questions on here and saw people mentioning a "manage user pics" option or something like that. I don't seem to have one! Also, I have also seen discussion of different gallery styles available etc. and have not been able to find this area as well. Can someone (gently and speaking in laymen's terms) help me figure this thing out? Thanks y'all!
At the moment, Scrapbook is just a hosting service, it will not resize, or allow you to make icons ont of pictures, for that you will need something like Adobie Photoshop, Jasc Paint Shop Pro, or any other photo editing tool..
As for Styles, you can get to it by going to http://pics.livejournal.com
--> Manage --> Styles .. Or this link - http://pics.livejournal.com/manage/styles/
Click Edit to change the one you have now.. Or best yet, Give a name, create a new one, and use it for testing till you figure it out..
You can resize pics with almost any picture package, even MS Paint.
You can resize your pics using the "Alter Picture" link at the top of a picture management page. Also, you can make userpics from any picture uploaded to ScrapBook by clicking the "Upload/Mange User Picture" link on the pic management page.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the user's needs though.
Where's that little resize option hiding ? All I see on the Alter Picture page is the image, Rotate, and Flip..
As for 'Upload/Mange User Picture' .. I missed that one, learn something new every .. hr..
It's a heading at the bottom of /manage/picalter labeled "Scale"
However, you won't be able to see it if there are no valid scaling options for your image. We will only scale to a certain set of sizes: 100x100, 320x320, 640x480, 800x600 (etc etc etc) -- and won't try to scale to any that will mess up the aspect ratio of the image. We should probably explain that somewhere, sorry. :-/
That would explain it.. None of my images meet that criteria, But it is Nice to know ( Though I think I'll stick with PSP for all my resizing needs.. )
FYI here are the valid scaling widths/heights:
@FB::VALID_SCALING_W = qw(0 50 100 150 320 640 800 1024 1280 1600);
@FB::VALID_SCALING_H = qw(0 50 100 150 240 320 480 600 640 768 960 1200);
Valid dimensions are those which have BOTH the width and height in the proper lists above, as well as don't break the images original aspect ratio.
I'm going to have to agree with ryoken3d
here. I cannot find that option anywhere on the picture page.
I have noticed that if the image is portrait the scaling option doesn't show... but if you rotate it so it is in landscape the scaling option appears.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature ! ;)
Thank you!! I will try that...hopefully I can get it to work :)

Photo Editing software
Another option you have is to download the free Irfanview image viewer
, which is quick and easy to use for re-sizing, as well as cropping, and it has some other nifty features, too. I've found it very simple, and I doubt that there are many people who know less about computers than I do.
Thank you TREMENDOUSLY!! I downloaded it last night and it's working wonderfully!
