Paid account expiration...

Quick question: what happens to your photos after your paid account expires? With userpics, the existing ones stay in place but you can't upload new ones until you trash them. What's the deal with the photos in your galleries?

I've been worrying wondering about the exact same thing.

I'm hoping they'll give us at least a month or so to renew our paid account...

My understanding is that they'll be like userpics. They're still there, but you can't edit or upload anything. Of course I'm not a developer, so don't quote me on that, but I believe that's how it works.

well, you know how theyve been changing lj around a lot lately.. i ran out of my paid time for three or so days a couple weeks ago. my extra pics were gone when it expired, but once i paid for the next paid account session, they all popped back up. hope that made some sense.

whitaker will have to answer this one, or he should help somebody write a FAQ.

Basically there are like 4 degraded levels that your account fall into over time, each one lasting a number of weeks.

It's something like:

1st level down: you can't upload more pictures, but everything else works

2nd level down: visitors to your gallery can only see medium-sized versions of your pictures (but you can still see and back-up everything)

3rd level down: visitors can only see thumbnails, but you can still back-up.

4th level down .....

I forget exactly how it works. But the basic goals are:

-- trust that your lack of payment was an accident and not screw over your viewers

-- give you LOTS of time to download all your pictures to your local computer and get them off our servers if you don't want to keep paying (and there's an automatic tool for that)

-- not loudly notify your viewers that you didn't pay

That's a great system.

Same thing happens. It was 5 days after my expiration before I was able to get the payment in; my fotobilder account was still there, just frozen. I was even still able to use it as host for the bacckground shot on my main lj.
