Right, I am now ecstatically happy, as I have finally managed to successfully install and run Fotobilder on my server. (Thanks Brad, it was Perl 5.8 that was screwing me up!!)

Right now, I'm getting an error trying to upload images.

If I do it via the windows client, I get "Server Error: Couldn't allocate a gpicid: Failed to make directories:"
If I do it via the site itself, I get "Server Error: Failed to find/create spool directory"

Any thoughts?

P.S. Brad, you're the greatest! :-)

did you make the var directory?
is it writable by the web server?

Yeah. I had the same problem. Either you need to run apache as the "fb" user or you need to make your var directory writeable by fb. (The former is preferable, I think.)

As I said to patrick, I didn't realise that a var directory had to be created. I couldn't find it anywhere in the documentation.

I do like the Windows client though! :-)

Cheers!

I'm just using the default www user that debian uses. It shouldn't matter too much as long as it's not root, right?

I wasn't aware that I had to create a var directory... it wasn't in the documentation.

However, I have now done so, and set the relevant permissions, and it works like a dream!! Thanks! :-)

I'm not sure why it's not in the documentation. It seems to be one of the most common issues that people have. once you get that part straightened out, it runs like a charm.
